Woodwork is so much part of the Portuguese cultural heritage and we have new young artisans developing amazing skills in this area. Concerned by environmental and sustainability issues, they are treating this natural raw material with a lot of passion and respect.

Diogo Amaro from Porto is presenting pieces from his exquisite Chicago series in the serene setting of Santa Clara 1728, an hotel within a building renovated by architect Manuel Aires Mateus. Artisan Miguel Saboya is installing for a few days an atelier in the fabulous concept store Banema Studio , opened in Campo de Ourique by one of the most important Portuguese companies in wood products. João Maria Bernardino behind Apewood will open his collective atelier, Maria 16 in Alcantara, and exhibit two of his creations at Galeria de Tapecarias de Portalegre. A group of artisans and artists from various disciplines will also exhibit at Maria 16, an amazing collective studio space.

Wesley Sacardi will come from Loulé with an installation of his “Bigorna Phases” that will be exhibited at our sponsor, Novobanco in their photography gallery. Vasco Fragoso Mendes behind the studio Barracão will exhibit at the showroom of Servànt in Santos. Wooden pieces will also be shown at Further Ther atelier in Santos, (read more about them in our interview) as well as in their new “Luso Collective” temporary space in Beato.
