Born from a desire to leave to future generations the knowledge of the roots of the Portuguese culture with a new approach to the traditional rugs of Arraiolos

In a different perspective from the classic Arraiolos Carpet, deFio rugs highlight the embroidery itself, expressing itself in a simple design and combining the richness of the various types of stitches of the Arraiolos embroidery, an innovative technique with the patent application ongoing.

We let ourselves be carried away by time, traveling through the inconsistency of manual work, savoring the surprise that error brings us and, in this way, highlighting what is unmistakably beautiful in everything that is human.

It consists of a project created by Filipa Won. "The daughter of a Portuguese mother and a Korean father, I was born in Lisbon in 1977 but soon moved to the Caramulo mountain. My whole childhood took place in the quiet village of Caramulo. During the long summer vacations girls and boys would join Mrs. Olimpia Madeira Lopes who taught us the art of Arraiolos embroidery."

With a background in economics, Filipa started her career in the field of numbers. However, sh has always felt the need to communicate through colors, a desire to imagine and create. It was during the first lockdown, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, that she was confronted with the idea of giving new life to the traditional Arraiolos rug, and she didn't hesitate ... "I knew that the time had finally come to explore my sensibility by expressing it through art. I'm a dreamer, very "daring", who simply believes in the generosity of life!"
