Sokyo Lisboa Gallery is a contemporary ceramics and art gallery based in Portugal focusing on Japanese ceramics.
Japanese ceramics is one of the oldest craft traditions in Japan. Going from utility objects commonly associated with the tea ceremony to the irreproachable aesthetics of ceramic sculptures, the excellence of the country’s ceramic tradition is recognized all around the world. The gallery wants to honor the bridge between Portugal and Japan built in the 16th century, when the Portuguese arrived in Japan and started a lively commercial exchange of cultural goods and handicraft techniques, and continue it by exploring art production in a context of cultural interaction, opening new possibilities of artistic expression between Japan - Portugal - Europe.
