Architects have been recognized as key figures in furniture design - from renowned names to newcomer studios making their mark.

Manuel Aires Mateus, one of the most renowned Portuguese architects, a member of LDW advisory board, created products for several Portuguese brands including for De la Espada and for MOR Design. The award winner architect will have several of his objects exhibited during our second edition. A new knife will be presented at Cutipol in Chiado. Cutipol is the Portuguese brand of reference for artisanal cutlery and their Lisbon shop is THE place for kitchen accessories and art de la table. One of Manuel Aires Mateus’ table, the Elia table, made in solid wood and manufactured with the brand Fuschini (created by two young Portuguese architects Vasco de Lima Mayer and Sara Oom de Sousa) will be shown at Archivo Aires Mateus in Campo de Ourique. Another new table by Aires Mateus , recently edited by Branca, the Portuguese brand created by famous Portuguese designer Marco Sousa Santos, will be shown at their showroom in Saldanha.

UNBOX COLOR X WORLD OF SATINKA
This year other architects will be showing their work including some objects. The young architecture studio, Cossement Cardoso, behind the realisation of Numa café in Principe Real will set up an exhibition in a modernist building in Infante Santo. Architect Eduardo Corales has created MOB Projects, an international design incubator, inviting young creators from various disciplines. Some of their works will be exhibited. Architect João Gameiro’s studio, Studio Gameiro, who has projects all over Western Europe, is passionate about promoting local artistry. He will open his studio in Principe Real to show some of his furniture and objects collections 'Clam' (pictured) and 'Slab' including a portable fireplace made of steel and marble. Architect and color consultant Susan Fisher founded UnBox Color to share her expertise on the use of color to transform spaces. For this edition, she is joining force with her neighbour, Sylvie Meyer from World of Satinka specialized in sustainable materials to be used in interior design. They have prepared a program of free consultations at their studios in Principe Real.

Amongst the showrooms participating in this second edition, several of them have played a big role in promoting international design in Portugal. Three of them were amongst the founders of The Santos Design District created in 2005 : Paris:Sete, Domo and Galeria Reverso. All three work with various international designers and brands but will also highlight this year Portuguese designers and brands. Paris Sete will show MOR design collection, Domo will host an exhibition by textile sculptor João Bruno and Galeria Reverso, an international reference in the field of Art Jewellery will present a new solo exhibition by Portuguese artist Patricia Domingues. Not far from there, Monica Penaguiao, in her beautiful new showroom in Lapa called Poeira, will show several of her creations as well as an impressive glass installation by Marie-Victoire Winckler. Also in Lapa, Ligia Casanova will celebrate her 30th anniversary with a special retrospective exhibition.
