LDW24 Guide to: ARTS AND CRAFTS

This second edition will be showing a diversity of arts & crafts objects. One medium that is well represented is ceramics with many ateliers opening their doors and ceramicists exhibiting in a selection of beautiful venues.

Among the ateliers specialized in ceramics that open their doors, we have for the second year Persson & Miller in Santos where artists Bryony and Wanda use mainly stoneware and porcelain. Not far away from there, Cecile Mestelan is showing her colorful tableware collections and new sculptures and totems in her shop and studio Cecile M and studio k., a studio run by Kiki Voortman who uses only porcelain, will show a collection of tableware and lamps at pastry chef Juliana Penteado. Her ceramics will be paired with  a special LDW edition cake and biscuits.

Duo Diogo Ferreira and Isac Coimbra from GRAU Cerâmica featured in our series on Lisbon Creative duos are showing their work at the new Ligne Roset showroom in Infante Santo. Not far from there, interior design atelier Rita Valadão will show pieces by Anna Westerlund. In Principe Real, artist Beatriz Horta Correia is exhibiting her new series “Still Life” at the grandiose gallery of Tapeçarias de Portalegre in Principe Real and Geraldine Pillot will exhibit in the same area at the Lachoix artisanal shoe shop.

In Chiado, Ju Reino Da Costa will have a solo show at the magnificent Palacio do Chiado curated by her gallery Barros & Bernard.  A new collection “ Bucólica” will be shown at Oficina Marques, another creative duo featured in our special series and there will be a  collective show at LACS Santos showing an eclectic selection of ceramic works curated by Rita Kroh. One of the highlights in this category is also our own LDW exhibition Nossa Terra curated by Sam Baron at Arquivo Aires Mateus.

In Principe Real, Sokyo Lisboa will exhibit a collection of exceptional pieces of contemporary Japanese ceramics presented amongst some furniture by young Portuguese architect Joana Vilaça. In the same street, Further Ther will show their collection of ceramics created by visual artist Natasza Grzeskiewicz.

Finally two collective studios of ceramics will open their ateliers: Main Edition & Marta Cypel in Campo de Ourique and Studio Mirante in Alfama. Several other design shops will offer an interesting selection of ceramics. This includes among others Poeira in Santos showcasing ceramics and range of exceptional glass totems by Marie V Winkler, PURACAL in LX factory and Flores Textile Studio in Praca das Flores. For furniture pieces and accessories in ceramic, Alan Louis who was particularly noted last year, is exhibiting both at Lisbon by Desgn fair and at Molteni&Co.
