LDW24 Guide to: COLLECTIBLE DESIGN

Collecting design is a rewarding activity. Looking at the artistic, aesthetic and conceptual aspects of a piece. Helping artisans and designers to create and develop their skills. During Lisbon Design Week, you will find unique pieces, bespoke commissions and limited editions from young contemporary designers as well as designers recognized internationally.

LISBON BY DESIGN

CABANAMAD

GALERIA BESSA PEREIRA

SOKYO

A first stop should be at the Lisbon by Design fair which is in its fourth edition at Palacio Gomes Freire. The founder, Julie de Halleux, is inviting a group of designers and artisans to collaborate and present new creations. Then, there is  the gallery CABANAmad, founded by curator and collector Antonio Lettieri, in Chiado that presents artistic works by national and international artists, designers and architects and Galeria Bessa Pereira’s amazing selection reflecting its owner’s Carlos Bessa Pereira’s passion for collecting both art and design. On the same street of Rua De São Bento, Sokyo Lisboa will present exceptional contemporary ceramic pieces sought after by collectors.

MADE IN SITU

PRIME MATTER GALLERY

Two other galleries are now a must for any collector in town, as they have been opened by two exceptional international designers as part of their creative projects. Made in Situ Gallery is a project by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance rooted in the treasures of Portugal’s territory, its craftspeople and connection to nature and Prime Matter Gallery, a project by Emmanuel Babled combining exhibitions, debates and history. Both galleries will show new exhibitions at the occasion of LDW.

GALERIA TAPEÇARIAS DE PORTALEGRE

FELIPA ALMEIDA

hen there is a place that is a treasure of Portuguese craftsmanship: the Galeria Tapeçarias de Portalegre. Their workshop in Portalegre has worked for the best Portuguese and international artists who sought to use tapestry as a medium for their work. Most of their tapestries are made to order but they have a few for sale at their gallery. Finally, as an inspiration for any collector, we strongly advise to stop at Felipa Almeida studio to see her personal collection of art & crafts objects made in Portugal. Felipa is also curating a beautiful exhibition at the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Hotel that is worth a “detour”. A special curation of vases by Portugal's pioneer of modernism, Mily Posoz, alongside Felipa's colliector edition vases inspired by the artist. Don't miss it.
